The mission of the MUS College Counseling Office is to aptly prepare students for the college selection process. We want students to think outside the proverbial box to find that right match in a school that encompasses their goals, embraces their academic potential, and envelops their special interests. The program begins in the eighth grade with academic advising and information dissemination, continuing through junior year and fall of the senior year, when regular group and individual college meetings and standardized testing begin. The process culminates in the spring on the national candidacy reply date of May 1. Visit the College Counseling Office for brochures, pamphlets, college guide books, and handouts.

Family Connection
MUS uses Family Connection to help families manage the college search and application process. Students and parents will receive passwords in the fall of the student's junior year and can log on here.
All seniors should:
- Complete all transcript requests on Family Connection. Remember: All applications start here. Do not wait until you have completed your application to submit a request. You should have all transcript requests in Family Connection by Friday, November 18.
- Report college decisions and scholarship offers to your college counselor as soon as they are known by bringing in a copy of the decision and/or scholarship letter.
If you have questions or need to schedule appointments, contact the College Counseling Office. Also visit Counseling Services for academic, personal, and career information.
Helpful Information
2011-12 College Visits
MUS has joined forces with Hutchison School and St. Mary's Episcopal School to provide our students and parents with An Evening with Colleges. We have selected three dates where both students and parents can mix, meet, and mingle with college representatives to learn more about the various institutions. All evening programs are open to our entire student body and parent community. However, we encourage students to sign up via Family Connection. The visits begin in October of each year. The dates for this year may be found on the College Counseling calendar of events.
Mr. Smith and Ms. Parr will take students on a College Tour to California during Spring Break. For registration information, download the brochure or stop by the College Counseling office. There is a cost associated with this trip.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
We encourage parents and students to use the college scholarship search program at www.scholarshipexperts.com to gain access to more than a million scholarships.
Parents can access www.finaid.org to review the estimator regarding college costs, which will give you a general idea of what you will be expected to contribute toward your son's college education. We strongly suggest www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov for your college planning. It will increase your knowledge of the financial aid process and provide information about other sources of aid available.
Test Prep
MUS has partnered with the Princeton Review to offer MUS students discounted rates for ACT and SAT test prep classes. These courses, conducted on our campus, are Princeton Review's most robust programs for ACT and SAT preparation. Each course consists of ten classes and runs approximately three hours each. ACT classes begin in January, SAT classes began in November, and the fee for each 10-week course is $450. To register, please call (888) 300-7787 ext. 5530 or email Ms. Stephanie Delcambre to receive the discounted rate. This rate is only for MUS students.
Parent Insights
Parent insights often provide college counselors with specific anecdotes or word pictures, which can display aspects of a student's personality that we might not see at school.
