The understanding and appreciation of the finest works of man's creative spirit are necessary for a complete education. Effective instruction in the arts provides the student with technical skills and motivation to develop an awareness of his environment, to increase his aesthetic and cultural understanding, and to communicate creatively his image of himself and his world. All of these aims can truly serve to produce in the individual an appreciation for the relationship of the arts to every aspect of daily living.
Theater
The Theater Arts program offers students an excellent outlet for self-expression and development through our theater company, MUSt C Productions. We produce two shows each year – one comedy or drama and a musical. Cast members are chosen during open auditions. Auditions are open to MUS and neighboring school students. There are opportunities to participate in all areas of theater including acting, dance and fight choreography, directing, improvisation, stagecrafts, lighting, public relations, sound design, and theater house management. Seniors often stage an annual student-directed play.

Beg To Differ®
Created in 1991 by MUS music instructor John Hiltonsmith, Beg To Differ is a male vocal harmony group that performs a variety of a cappella styles including classical, spiritual, and religious. The ensemble's specialty, however, is "curbstone harmony" that includes Barbershop and Philadelphia Doowop. The ensemble features 16-20 singers and performs for many school-related and civic functions during the school year. Their unique mixture of classic and popular styles has made them appealing to a wide range of audiences, as evidenced by the increased demand for their performances.

Recording Arts Program
Established in 2005 by music instructor John Hiltonsmith, the Recording Arts Program takes advantage of the Bloodworth Studio, the school's state-of-the-art digital and analog studio. Through the program, students learn the art of capturing and editing sound. A performance-oriented class charts and covers significant popular tunes and provides music to be recorded by the engineering students. All MUS students can take advantage of the Bloodworth Studio, and an annual CD showcasing the talent of the entire student body is released each year.
The MUS Studio Band and Beg to Differ® practice and record in the Bloodworth Studio.
