AP Courses   MUS offers 17 different Advanced Placement courses for possible college credit. Historically, 90% of MUS students score a 3 or above on AP examinations.

Campus   MUS is situated on 94 acres of wooded property in East Memphis.

Character   MUS is a non-denominational and non-discriminatory college-preparatory day school for boys in grades 7-12. With an enrollment of approximately 650 students, MUS offers a diverse and challenging curriculum that balances academics, athletics, and the arts with an education that teaches the value of integrity and strength of character.

Co-EDGE   MUS has a coordinate program with the all-girl Hutchison School whose adjacent campus allows for joint academic, athletic, civic service, and leadership programs and activities.

College Admissions   A full-time Director of College Guidance assists MUS seniors in the college application process with a 100% acceptance rate. Eighty-eight percent of the Class of 2006 was offered more than $8,600,000 in scholarships based on academics, athletics, or leadership. This does not include need-based financial aid.

College Testing   During the last five years, our mid-range SAT-I scores and ACT composite scores have been approximately 30% above the national average.

Community Service   A student’s responsibility to society is a priority at MUS. The student-run Civic Service Organization leads community service projects weekly.

Counseling Services   The Kemmons Wilson Leadership Development and Counseling Department promotes learning and facilitates the social, intellectual, and emotional development of our students. The counseling staff advises student organizations, administers various parent and student education programs, and addresses student concerns through personal guidance.

Faculty   The faculty averages 21 years teaching experience. Forty-three faculty members hold master’s degrees and nine have earned doctorate degrees. Ten faculty members are MUS alumni.

Financial Aid   Approximately 26% of the student body receives some financial assistance totaling about $1,200,000. All financial aid at MUS is need-based as evaluated by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, New Jersey.

Founded   The original MUS was founded in 1893 and closed in 1936 during the Great Depression. The present MUS was chartered in 1954 and opened for operation in 1955.

Funding   Tuition covers only 72% of the school’s operating costs, with the balance being met by gifts from individuals, businesses, foundations, and endowment. During the past five years, the Annual Fund has raised more than $3.9 million for the operation of the school. In addition, MUS has an endowment fund of $21.2 million that generates income used for scholarships, teachers’ salaries, and the general operations of the school.

Honor Code   The student-run Honor Council helps to maintain the school’s motto Veritas Honorque – Truth and Honor – and does not tolerate lying, cheating, or stealing.

Nationally Recognized Honors   For the last five years, the average percentage of MUS graduates receiving recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has been approximately 26%.

Sports   The school has athletic teams in eleven interscholastic sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling. More than 70% of students participate in one or more teams.

Student-Faculty Ratio   The student-faculty ratio for classroom teachers is 10 to 1. Average class size is 17 students.

Student Activities   MUS offers its students numerous extracurricular activities in such areas as government, publications, music, theater, speech, athletics, honor societies, and more than 30 other clubs of popular interest.
