NoveList  EBSCOhost's fiction database that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, and much more for over 135,000 fiction titles.

Digital Book Index  Free index to online public domain e-texts.

General Reference Databases  Journal articles, encyclopedias, biographies, and other general sources provide a wealth of information on authors, fiction, nonfiction, genres, and book reviews.

The MUS Library has collected authors' Web sites at delicious.com.  Check out the games, interactive models, and book summaries for your favorite authors.

 

Start a New Series


These are a few of the great series here at MUS.  We will feature new material, old favorites, and little known books that will leave you wanting more, as well as link to the author or series Web site and the online library catalog.

Jim Butcher.  Storm Front is the first in the series and Butcher has plans to take it as high as twenty-something. Jim Butcher.  The Dreseden Files feature Harry Dresden as a demon-fighting private investigator who also happens to be a wizard.  The Web site includes samples of the first two chapters for you to read online.  The library has the first 9 in the series, but here are links to the first three:  Storm Front, Fool Moon, and Grave Peril.  Also, check out the graphic novel of a new Dresden story--Welcome to the Jungle.
Charlie Higson.  Hurricane Gold is the latest in the Young Bond series. Charlie Higson.  The Young Bond novels are based on Ian Fleming's well known character.  (That link will take you to Higson's Web site with a cool cover flow on the main page.)  James Bond is a young teenager who starts school at Eton after his parents' deaths.  MUS Library has these in the series:  Blood Fever, SilverFin, and Double or Die.
Andy McNab.  Counter-terrorism and international espionage are the themes of this series as Danny Watts tries to clear his family name. Andy McNab.  Trained as a counter-terrorism expert by SAS in the UK, this writer has a series of books about Danny Watts--a man who sets out to make his grandfather pay dearly for his treason. The Web site offers real news updates on global terrorism and a blog about the experiences of war seen firsthand by soldiers. Includes Traitor, Payback, Avenger, and Meltdown.
James Patterson.  The Final Warning is the latest in this series. James Patterson.  A group of human-avian hybrids called The Flock are on the run from the scientists who created them. The Maximum Ride series includes The Angel Experiment, School's Out--Forever, Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, and Final Warning.
James Patterson.  Latest series with co-author Michael Ledwidge.  The Dangerous Days of Daniel X is about a boy whose parents were murdered when he was only three and when he discovers they were Alien Bounty Hunters, his whole life changes.
Rick Yancey.  Alfred is roped into a get-rich-quick scheme of his guardian uncle's to steal the legendary Excalibur. Rick Yancey.  His Alfred Kropp series has its own myspace page with music and videos (which you'll have to go to from off campus).  MUS Library has the first three in this series:  The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp, The Seal of Solomon, and The Thirteenth Skull.
   

Graphic Novels


Watchmen by Alan Moore. A 12-issue limited comic book series which follows a band of retired superheroes as they solve the mystery of another superhero's death.  This series takes place on an alternate Earth where superheroes emerged to help solve the Vietnam War but were mostly taken under government control and forced to retire.
Welcome to the Jungle.  Dresden Files.  by Jim Butcher. Welcome to the Jungle.  Jim Butcher.  A graphic novel series containing the same characters from the Dresden Files.
Superman Batman: Saga of the Super Sons. DC Comics. Superman Batman: Saga of the Super Sons.  DC Comics; Bob Haney. Clark Kent, Jr. and Bruce Wayne, Jr. cope with being the sons of superheroes, yet not being able to admit it.
