Faculty Resources & Video Support


Class Research Guides  Customized for specific class projects--let us do one for you!  This link takes you to the New Testament Timeline research guide, but the drop down menu at the top of every webpage gives a list of the current class project guides available.

Safari Montage   2,000 videos from PBS, A&E, and other partners of the Library Video Company are available for our faculty and staff to use on campus through their faculty usernames and passwords. Ask a librarian for more information.

Discovery Education streaming  Formerly known as United Streaming Video.  Over 5000 videos and other teaching resources are here, ready to use. Follow the online instructions to find and download a video. Save it to the Z drive under Library Videos or temporarily store it on your desktop; you can also burn it to a CD or DVD. Optionally, click on "Add to My Content," and it will be listed there the next time you need it.  For an initial passcode, contact the library.

Statement of Philosophy on Print vs. Online Sources for Research

The MUS library provides both digital and print copies of periodicals, books, and other reference materials through subscription databases and considers them to be of equal value--as opposed to unvetted, open websites such as Wikipedia, personal webpages, and non-scholarly sites.

DATABASES

Professional Development Collection  EBSCOhost's collection of full-text articles from over 500 academic education journals and magazines.

Teacher Reference Center (TRC)  A new index of over 260 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals, and books, offered free via the EBSCOhost platform. 

TERC (Testing and Education Reference Center)  Practice tests and preparation guides for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, GRE, and more.  Enter with the MUS username and password, and then create your own account.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA)  Delivered via EBSCOhost, LISTA indexes nearly 600 specialized periodicals plus books, research reports, and proceedings, with coverage dating back to the mid-1960s.

Professional Collection  Thomson Gale's collection of full-text articles from education periodicals.

ERIC  Research reports on topics in education published by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

Discovery Channel School  From the Discovery Channel, this site's navigation bar offers curriculum ideas, lesson plans, a guide for educators, a teacher's store, clip art, and Cable in the Classroom support.

Education World  A search engine for educational websites only. This is a great place to begin browsing for lesson plans and activity ideas.  Don't miss the interdisciplinary, thematic, and group-learning lesson plans. 

EdWeb  Provides information on the role of the World Wide Web in education, an interactive HTML crash course, discussions of the history of networking, and education reforms for the 21st century.

Edgate History Day Links  Nice collection of links for middle and high school students and teachers.

English Companion  Includes book recommendations, links to articles about education resources, academic success, and classroom help.

Eisenhower National Clearinghouse  For science and math teachers and sponsored by the Dept. of Education, this site offers curriculum resources, reference services and links to science and math sites.

Electronic School  An online magazine for teachers and school administrators.

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence  Site that links to and promotes free educational resources provided by federal agencies.

Foundation for Teaching Economics  Curriculum design, lesson plans, special programs, standards, professional development opportunities, and special programs for students.

Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM)  A project of the National Library of Education, designed to help educators find information on the Internet. A keyword-searchable database offers more than 12,000 lesson plans, activities, and projects by grade level.

Globewide Network Academy  The most comprehensive database of distance education courses and programs. Has both a student channel and a teacher channel.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators  A categorized list of sites on the Internet found to be useful for enhancing curriculum and teacher professional growth, updated daily. 

Library in the Sky  Features over 15,000 quality education links.  There is an excellent lesson plan list in the Teacher Resources section.

Math Forum  Web site designed to provide information on math resources, education, and key issues in the field of mathematics

Mathematics and Computer Science Hot List  The Hotlists are Internet resources that science and mathematics educators and enthusiasts may find useful. 

MPAA Film Ratings  Motion Picture Association of America. Find out the age ratings for various films; search by title.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics  Web site for this professional organization.

New York Times Learning Network (gr. 6-12)  A free service for students, teachers, & parents, updated daily.

Science Learning Network  Provides access to an online community of educators, students, schools, science museums and others.

Teacher Net  The place to go to chat with other teachers. 

Teacher's Internet Use Guide  This guide works with you, designing Internet-based lessons.

T.H.E. Journal  For technology in the classroom.

Thinkfinity  Previously known as the Marco Polo Education site, the updated version provides sections on Teacher Resources, Educational Development, and a Literacy Network (sponsored by Verizon).  Rated the best site for free downloadable lessons and materials.

World Lecture Hall  Publishes links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver course materials in any language.

The Really Big List of Classroom Management Resources  This web resource has the largest collection of classroom management and discipline sites.

Big6  Lesson plans utilizing the Big 6 information skills curriculum are made available-great for exercising critical thinking proficiencies.

Smithsonian  Educators can spend time browsing lesson plans and quality educational resources for art and design, science, technology, history, and language arts classes.

Fun Mathematics Lessons  Contains over 20 mathematical activities for ages K-adult.  This site offers lessons on counting and fractions to algebra, and most lessons are "action" based.
