Search Directories vs. Engines Directories Search directories are indexed by people, not computers. They are driven by a hierarchical menu instead of a search algorithm. Because of this, directories index fewer sites, but may give you better results than search engines. Google's regular web search results are enhanced by information from the Google directory, so using Google Search already makes use of the directory's resources. The link above takes you to the library's delicious.com site featuring reliable search directories.
Search Engines Search engines are indexed by computers and driven by an algorithm. Index more sites than directories but are less careful about what results show up. The link above takes you to the library's delicious.com site featuring reliable search engines--not including Google.
