The JV Owls improved to 4 and 0 on the season with a 21 to 7 victory over BCS. The Owl defense was very strong holding the Saints to -17 yards rushing and just over 100 total offense. 60 if that came on their 1 TD pass. While everyone contributed to the defensive cause Chris Yarbro really stood out coming up with 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. Austin Dowdle and McRae Dickinson played well at inside LB'er.
The offensive line on this group has really improved over the course of the season. Cason Triplett, Chris Parks, Clayton Nearn, Mac Magness, Tamaz Young, and William Shell had a solid game. Christopher Goodwin and Alex Coffman ran the ball well. George Hamsley threw for 148 yards with Drew Burnett having 5 catches.
The JV Owls traveled to CBHS for the final game of the season and came away with a 21 to 14 victory. This gave the squad a 5-0 record for the year. It was a hard fought game as one would expect. The 1st quarter went quickly with each team having a good drive that stalled out. CBHS got on the board with a 30 yard TD pass late in the 2nd quarter and led at the half 7 to 0.
The 2nd half started with a bang as JP Hogan returned the KO 88 yards for a TD. Chris Yarbro tacked on the PAT to tie the score. The defense got a stop and then the offense put together a 79 yard 9 play drive that was capped off by a George Hamsley to Drew Burnett 12 yard TD pass. Yarbro was on target again to push the score to 14 to 7. In the 4th quarter Alex Coffman finished off a 8 play 40 yard drive with a 3 yard TD run. Following another successful Yarbro kick the Owls led 21 to 14. CBHS did put together a nice end of game drive and got the late score, making the final at 21 to 14.
The Owl defense was good again. Excellent play from Vincent Perkins who was credited with 9 tackles and 1 pass break up along with secondary mates JP Hogan (1 fumble recovery) and Mac Owens (1 int). Sacks came from McRae Dickinson, Tamaz Young, Chris Parks, and Jack Ryan. Clayton Nearn recovered a fumble as well.
These guys show us they will be ready to step up next year on Friday nights and continue the strong tradition of MUS Football. Congrats on a great season.
The 2nd half of Monday Night Football followed the same script as the 9th grade game. Outstanding defense by both groups made yards hard to find. Whitehaven got on the board first with a 73 yard interception return for a TD midway in the opening quarter. The JV Owls struck right back aided by a roughing the kicker penalty when George Hamsley found Drew Burnett down the middle for a 23 yard TD strike. Chris Yarbro added the PAT aided by the snap of Cason Triplett and the hold of Fred Schaeffer.
The defenses remained strong in the 2nd quarter. The Owls had a great 4th down stop behind the play of Clayton Nearn and McRae Dickinson. The Owl offense was struggling to get going but toward the end of the period the defense stepped up on a great play by JP Hogan who stepped in front of a Whitehaven pass and weaved his way 57 yards for the TD. Yarbro and crew converted the PAT again and the Owls led at the half 14 to 6.
The second half produced few highlights on either side with the defenses remaining in control. Field position remained in our favor thanks to excellent punting by Charlie Nichols. All in all this was a solid win for the JV.
