    Dr. Eric Dalle ’93, instructor in English, organized a team of 11 students to compete in the 2021 WordSmith Writing Olympics, sponsored by the University of Memphis English Department, in February. The Owls competed in three events separated by length and grade level, and nine of the competitors were recognized in at least one event.

  • Owl Ovation goes to Joe Abrahams

    The February Parents’ Association Owl Ovation goes to Director of Counseling Joe Abrahams ’96. A parent whose son has faced medical challenges described how Abrahams provided support and encouragement for the family, often on a daily basis. He helped the student formulate a plan for his academics, coordinated communication with instructors, and provided counseling. “It did a lot to lift [our son’s] spirit,” the parent wrote.

    The West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association selected a record 25 Owls and three alternates for its 2021 All-West Tennessee ensembles. Auditions were virtual because of COVID restrictions, and students had to prepare two videos to submit for judging – one for an excerpt or etude and one for scales.

    Three Owls earned national mathematics honors in the November AMC 8 competition. Eighth graders Alan Cheng and Oscar Liu and seventh grader Albert Ding earned honor roll designations for their performances. Cheng scored in the top 1% nationally and Ding and Liu scored in the top 5%.
