WordSmithing Owls Earn Awards

Owls competed in the 2019 WordSmith Writing Olympics in late February with four earning honors in their grade-level competitions. Seventh grader Jerry Xiao earned a school trophy and an individual Silver Medal for taking Second Place in the 400-Word Main Event and Third Place in the 80-Word Dash for his grade level.
Three Upper School students earned honors in their grade-level contests: Senior Jory Meyers, Honorable Mention, 120-Word Dash; junior Robert Dickinson, Third Place, 80-Word Dash; and freshman J.D. Clorina, Honorable Mention, 80-Word Dash. Celebrating nearly 40 years at the University of Memphis, the WordSmith competition brings hundreds of middle and high school students from 30 area schools to test their writing and creative-thinking skills with a series of writing exercises.
