Arjun Puri Physics Olympian

Junior Arjun Puri earned a Gold Medal for his performance in the 2019 Physics Olympiad and has been named a USA Physics Olympiad finalist. Approximately 6,000 students participated in the first round of the competition hosted by the American Association of Physics Teachers in late January. Less than 7 percent of those students qualified as semifinalists, advancing to the next round in late March.
Out of the 400 or so semifinalists, only 46 made Gold Medals and a chance at being a finalist. Puri was among them – and the only medalist from Tennessee. MUS has seen several Owls earn a place among the USAPhO semifinalists, but Puri is the first to reach the finalist stage. He is now in a very small group of candidates who may be chosen to represent the U.S. in the International Physics Olympiad in Tel Aviv, Israel, in July.
