LS Lacrosse Captures 18th City Championship
Recap from Coach Jeffrey Block -
I can’t begin to tell you guys how proud the coaches are of you. This team has been one of the most enjoyable group of boys to coach, and it has been great seeing the individaul and team development through the year. The team learned how to trust each other and played its best TEAM lacrosse tonight. The team put together its most complete game of the year tonight, dominating both sides of the field, and beating Briarcrest 10-5 for our 18th City Championship (out of 19 years)! Our defense and goalie play shut down their offense, while our middies controlled the transitions and face-offs (for once!) and we were able to show our most impressive offensive possessions of the year – led by our talented attack.
This year, we saw such great improvement from our newest players on the B team to our most experienced players on the A team. Some stats from this season:
- The A Team goes 13-2 outscoring opponents 144-75 (9.6-5.0 per game) with a combined 7 wins over the other teams in the playoffs (Houston, Brothers, and Briarcrest). The only losses came while we were without 2-3 of our top defenders to a very good MBA team and Briarcrest.
- The B Team goes 9-1 with their only loss coming to ECS’s A team. The wins were highlighted with victories over Brothers, Houston, Briarcrest and the A-team from St. George’s. The team outscored opponents 55-35 (5.5-3.5 per game). The improvement through the year was incredible for us to watch.
Be proud of what you have accomplished, but it’s only the beginning. I know that this talented class of 8th graders will continue to bring up their game and make a big impact over the next 4 years at the Varsity level. For the 7th graders, we look forward to you working hard during the Off-Season to continue to improve and being ready to lead next year!
Have a great summer…
Coach Block
