Valedictorian Frederick Huang

Valedictorian Frederick Huang is an inquisitive scholar, an accomplished swimmer, a gifted musician, and a caring friend. His insatiable intellectual curiosity and tireless work ethic are hallmark traits. His focus on overall wellness – physical, mental, and social-emotional – including prioritizing sleep, sets an example for all. 
Outside of school, Huang conducts research on exercise science and quality of life. Looking at biomarkers and cardiometabolic factors, he presented his research at the International Society for Quality of Life Research conference. He also submitted his findings to the Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness and was published as first author on “Cardiometabolic factors explaining the association between physical activity and quality of life: U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.”
 
In addition to independent inquiry, Huang’s tenacity serves him well as he grapples with complex material until he achieves a strong working knowledge of a topic. He was recognized as a National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction, and he was inducted into the MUS Cum Laude Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Latin Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, and the National Honor Society.

Huang swims competitively year-round and placed in the state swim meet each year. He also qualified to play the violin with the Tennessee All-State Orchestra for the past four years.

Co-founder and co-president of the MUS Chess Club, he and his fellow members placed in the top 10 in the 2022 U.S. Chess National High School K-12 Championships.

Huang is the son of Dr. Jung-Hua Liu and Dr. I-Chan Huang of Germantown. He graduated summa cum laude and will attend Washington University in St. Louis, where he plans to pursue a degree in neuroscience on a pre-med track.
