MUS IS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK!
At Memphis University School, we have excellent programs because of the excellence of our people – teachers, coaches, administrators, and staff who are dedicated to our mission.
Memphis University School is a college-preparatory school dedicated to academic excellence, cultivation of service and leadership, and the development of well-rounded young men of strong moral character, consistent with the school’s Christian tradition.
Our people enjoy a collegial working environment that encourages outstanding performance, creativity, and teamwork. Following are some of the advantages of working at MUS:
Competitive salaries and benefits
Low faculty and staff turnover
Professional development support
Nine endowed teaching chairs
Faculty and staff awards with generous stipends
Founded in 1893 for boys in Grades 7-12, MUS enjoys a strong base of support from 4,450 active alumni and a $55 million (and growing) endowment. We have a student-faculty ratio of 7:1, and 70 percent of our teachers hold a master’s degree or Ph.D. The success of our students is a testament to an exceptional faculty: The average ACT score for the Class of 2018 was 30, and the average AP score was 4.29 out of 5. We offer a full complement of athletic, artistic, and extracurricular activities designed to help students discover and develop their interests and abilities. The school community abides by the Honor Code, which is administered by the student-run Honor Council.
With a little over 1.3 million residents, the Memphis metropolitan area boasts a historic music scene, world famous barbecue, and a small-town feel, despite the presence of the Memphis Grizzlies and several Fortune 500 companies – including FedEx and AutoZone, both founded by MUS alumni. In addition to four small colleges, a medium-sized university, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis is home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a world-renowned leader in the treatment of catastrophic diseases in children. Memphis continues to develop and expand opportunities throughout the community with investments in projects such as a revitalized Downtown, Crosstown Concourse vertical village, and the 4,500-acre Shelby Farms Park – all of which have benefited from the leadership of MUS alumni. The city also supports a diverse restaurant scene and a variety of unique neighborhoods to explore. Plus, the cost of living is very affordable.
Employment at Memphis University School is contingent upon successful completion of a background, drug-screening, and reference check. MUS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnic or national origin in its admission policies or in any other activities or programs of the school.
