ABOUT MUS

Founded in 1893 for boys in Grades 7-12, MUS enjoys a strong base of support from 4,300 active alumni and a $50 million (and growing) endowment. We have a student-faculty ratio of 8:1, and 70 percent of our teachers hold a master’s degree or Ph.D. The success of our students is a testament to an exceptional faculty: The average ACT score for the Class of 2017 was 31.5, and 23 percent of the Class of 2018 was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. We offer a full complement of athletic, artistic, and extracurricular activities designed to help students discover and develop their interests and abilities. The school community abides by the Honor Code, which is administered by the student-run Honor Council.

ABOUT MEMPHIS

With a little over 1.3 million residents, the Memphis metropolitan area boasts a historic music scene, world famous barbecue, and a small-town feel, despite the presence of the Memphis Grizzlies and several Fortune 500 companies – including FedEx and AutoZone, both founded by MUS alumni. In addition to four small colleges, a medium-sized university, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis is home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a world-renowned leader in the treatment of catastrophic diseases in children. Memphis continues to develop and expand opportunities throughout the community with investments in projects such as a revitalized Downtown, Crosstown Concourse vertical village, and the 4,500-acre Shelby Farms Park – all of which have benefited from the leadership of MUS alumni. The city also supports a diverse restaurant scene and a variety of unique neighborhoods to explore. Plus, the cost of living is very affordable.

Employment at Memphis University School is contingent upon successful completion of a background, drug-screening, and reference check. MUS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnic or national origin in its admission policies or in any other activities or programs of the school.
