Home Meet 2 Recap

The team had another solid day winning the meet overall. We continued to do well in the field events. Dorian Hopkins led the way with two wins (triple jump & discus) plus a third place in the shot. Also in the shot we got a second place from Marcus Henderson and fourth from DJ Brown. In discus Matthew Rhodes was third and Cason Triplett was fourth. Pole vault was also a strong event with a first place effort by Eston Pahlow, second to Gavin McKay and fourth to Mason Pahlow. Churchill Akhigbe finshed third in the triple jump. And in high jump Caleb Littlejohn finished second before he joined the baseball team and pitched in relief to win the game.

The team improved its performance on the track with several very good efforts. Alex Warr got things started well with a second place finish in the 3200. Gavin McKay was fourth in the 300 hurdles setting a PR. Things really got exciting in the 400 when Sellers Shy, the defending state champion in this event, dropped in from lacrosse practice and ran an excellent 49.49 for the win. Also scoring in the race was Mason Pahlow finishing sixth with a PR. Devonte Nelson finished a strong second place in the 200. The 4x800 team finished 6th (Alex Warr, Joseph Barnes, JP Wood, Rob McFadden). The last event of the evening was the 4x200 relay which produced 2 excellent groups. The A team of Ben Gilliland, Jalen Hollimon, Sellers Shy, and Devonte Nelson ran a strong 1:32.86 to finish 2nd to Cordova. But also the B team of Jordan Helton, Gavin McKay, Mason Pahlow, and Edwin Shy ran 1:33.09 which was the thrid best overall time.

The team is back in action next Tuesday at MUS. The track events rotate back to the 100, 110 hurdles, 800, 1600 and relays of 4x100 and 4x400.
