Baseball Recap Week of April 29th

The Baseball Owls opened last week against Germantown on Tuesday. After having played consistent baseball thus far, we opened to a 3-0 lead against the Red Devils. However, miscues, walks, and errors led to the Red Devils’ victory, 10-6, even though we outhit Germantown, 13-8. Caleb Littlejohn took the loss. Jacob Messer, Will Portera, Griff Griffin, Maurice Hampton, and Nash Stewart all had multiple hits in the game.
The next day, we played the Memphis Home Education Association, a very competitive team that took a 4-2 lead in the 3rd inning. We came back in the 5th inning to tie it, and later in the 6th, we pulled away. Connor Price homered in the 1st inning to start us off. Matthew Camp got the win.
Then Friday we traveled south to play Northpoint Christian School. The Trojans would strike first in the 3rd inning, but we came roaring back with two runs in the top of the 4th. We would pull away in the top of the 7th, adding 3 runs to win, 5-1. Jacob Messer had 2 RBI’s on the day, and Jack Gorman and Will Portera would have one each. Nash Stewart was the winning pitcher, surrendering 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings and striking out 5. Maurice Hampton threw one inning in relief.
And on Saturday we took on Tipton Rosemark Academy for the second time. Henry Wood got the start on the mound, his second start against TRA. He had already won, 4-0, at TRA. This time we came out swinging, scoring 10 in the first inning. That would be the final, 10-0 in 5 innings. Wood would go all five innings, giving up only 3 hits. Will Portera and Connor Price each collected multiple hits, part of our 11 total hits as a team.

We head into the final week with a game at Collierville on Tuesday and the region tournament at CBHS starting on Thursday. We open with Briarcrest at 4:30 and are the home team as the second seed.
