State Recap

The team had some highs and lows at the state meet this year. As a team we finished 7th which was perhaps one slot lower than what we had hoped if we had performed at the top of our game in every event.

Our highlights begin with another incredible performance by Sellers Shy in the open 400 meter dash where he defended his state title and ran a personal best of 48.36. That is the 3rd best time run in MUS history placing Sellers behind the 2 best times of Carlton Orange and slightly ahead of Lee Moore. It is to be noted that both Carlton and Lee received All American honors in college so what Sellers has done on a limited training program is almost unbelievable. Other excellent performances were turned in by DJ Brown in the Shot where he PR'ed by over 2' (49-06) to finish 4th and a 2" PR by Stephen Christenbury in the HJ (5-10) to finish 7th.

Our other individuals who scored were Dorian Hopkins (3rd in the triple jump and 5th in the discus), Matt Rhodes (3rd in the discus), and Churchill Akhigbe (5th in the triple jump)

We had three relay teams that qualified with our best hopes being in the 4x200. That group ran well and finshed 3rd but we were disqualified for an exchange outside the zone. Tough break for the group of Sellers Shy, Jalen Hollimon, Devonte Nelson, and Jordan Helton. Hopkins took Shy's place in the 4x100 where we finished 7th. Then we finished in 8th place in the 4x400 with Nelson, Hopkins, Edwin Shy, and Sellers Shy.
