WHITEHAVEN FR RECAP

The 9th grade Owls played an intense game last night against a talented Whitehaven squad and got the victory 7 to 0. This was indeed a defensive struggle. Whitehaven managed only 2 first downs the entire game. The Owls only had 3. Both teams combined for only 103 yards of total offense. It was a fierce battle that old school football coaches would love.

One of the highlights in the first half was a nice interception and return by Will McDaniel. In the 2nd half the Owls got a big offensive play on a pass from Liam Shepherd to Jack Blackwell. Although the drive stalled out the play put the Owls in great field position and kept Whitehaven bottled up. The defense was firm and Malcolm Shaw did a good job with punt returns. With time running down Whitehaven tried a deep pass that was intercepted by Rhodes Temme and returned 17 yards to the Tigers 27. Only 1:43 remained in the contest. After knocking on the door twice earlier in the 4th quarter, Shepherd found Shaw down the middle for a big 22 yard gain to the 5. Shepherd scrambled for a couple of yards setting up 2nd and 3. After struggling much of the night to block the Whitehaven front the Owls ran to their left and got key blocks from all 5 lineman, Nickolas Matthews, Lewsi Butler, Dewitt Shy, Dylan Robinson, and Jackson Moore. Shaw made a key block on the edge as did Blackwell allowing Stryker Aitken to drive into the endzone. Drew Clift tacked on the PAT and then had a great kick-off that the Owls recovered. It was an awesome ending.

Anytime you battle against the Whitehaven Tigers and come out with a W is a good night. Proud of these gusy for battling the entire night and especially all the defensive guys who never waivered.
