November Owl Ovation Honors Blackwell

Instructor in Science Nick Blackwell is the Owl Ovation honoree for November.
“He has gone above and beyond during these trying times to make the boys understand and learn science as well as working with them at any time they may need some extra help,” a parent wrote.

Blackwell joined the faculty of Memphis University School as a science instructor in August, and he teaches seventh-grade Life Science and eighth-grade Physical Science. He was studying engineering at the University of Memphis when, inspired by a teacher who had a great influence on him as a middle schooler, he switched his major. He graduated cum laude with a degree in middle school education. Mr. Blackwell worked at Lausanne Collegiate School from 2015-20, first as a seventh-grade math teacher and more recently as a fifth-grade science teacher. An Eagle Scout, he has tutored students, helped build theater sets, coached middle school and varsity football, and led students on international study trips to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Iceland.
