MUS in Europe 2022

MUS offers a summer program in Europe especially geared toward rising juniors and rising seniors who want to explore the European culture while studying abroad. The program, which includes seminars and travel, is conducted by our faculty and changes each year to reflect the various faculty members’ fields of interest and expertise. MUS contracts with Kipling Tours to facilitate the MUS in Europe program.

We are pleased to announce the MUS in Europe 2022 course that will be offered to the Class of 2023 and the Class of 2024.
World War II and Germany will be taught by Dr. Jonathan Jones, chair of the History and Social Studies Department. Students taking this course will visit Munich, Salzburg (Austria), and Berlin, retracing the history of the rise of Hitler and the Third Reich. We will also pay our respects to the victims of the Holocaust by visiting Dachau concentration camp outside Munich, as well as touring the Jewish Museum and the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. Our trip will conclude with a tour of Paris, recalling Hitler’s visit after the French surrender in June 1940.

Dates: May 29 – June 11, 2022

Cost: Approximately $5,000. (We will provide the exact cost before the students sign up.) We will begin accepting deposits once we have met with the students at the beginning of school in the fall.

Dr. Jones will teach the academic course on Wednesday afternoons during the second semester of 2021-22 and will continue to teach on the road in Europe. Students will read primary sources and watch films to gain a better understanding of Nazi Germany and its impact on the lives of millions of people. Students fulfilling the academic requirements of the course will earn one semester’s English credit. There is no foreign language requirement for participation.
