Writers Dash Out Success

Eleven Owls exercised their writing skills in the 2022 WordSmith competition, and five came away with honors. The competition, sponsored by the University of Memphis English Department in February, draws middle and high school students from 30 area schools to compete in quick writing exercises known as dashes.
Dr.Eric Dalle ’93, instructor in English, organized the team and announced the following winners:
120-word Dash: First Place - J.D. Clorina’22
120-word Dash: Second Place - Will Hess’24
40-word Dash: Second Place - Levi Miller’25
120-word Dash and 40-word Dash: Honorable Mention - Kyan Ramsay’23
400-word Essay: Honorable Mention - Will Patterson ’27
