Classics Writing Contest Honors Owls

Congratulations to seniors Max Mascolino and James Van Der Jagt and junior Brandon Nicholson for receiving recognition in the Monmouth College Bernice Fox Classics Writing Contest.
The theme of the contest this year was “What Makes Them Different Makes Them Great,” calling upon students to imagine figures from classical antiquity using their outsider status to navigate challenges in the modern world. Max wrote about the Trojan prophetess Cassandra as a modern-day social media influencer, James applied the myth of Daedalus and Icarus to Chinese drone technology, and Brandon portrayed Hercules as a boxing champion in the contemporary world.

The college selects one overall winner each year and then recognizes a small number of honorable mention recipients.
