Seven Latin students have been recognized in the 2017 Phaedrus Latin Composition Contest. Seniors Brooks Eikner and Henry Trammell earned finalist honors; and seniors John McBride, Rahul Mehra, and Aneesh Ram, and juniors Will Huffman and Chris Kerkhof were named semifinalists.
Of the 296 students who competed in the contest from throughout the U.S., 29 were recognized as finalists and 159 were named semifinalists. The competition requires students to write an original fable in Latin, in the same tradition as the Roman fabulist Phaedrus.
New St. Andrews College in Moscow, ID, sponsored the competition, offering $5,000 worth of scholarships to winners and finalists and additional cash prizes to the three winners.
