The Owls finished 2nd in the region with a great effort this past week. We ran our best times of the year in almost all events. We will see over the next few days how many qualify for state but we did have some exceptional performers who won to automatically qualify. Dorian Hopkins came away with 4 gold medals winning the decathlon, triple jump, discus, and ran anchor on the 4x200 gold medal team. He also anchored our 2nd place 4x100 team. Hastings McEwan won 2 gold medals in the 3200 and 1600 and finished 2nd in the 800. Our other gold medal came in the 400 where Sellers Shy ran an impressive 49.25 to win by a healthy margin. Shy, Hopkins, Ben Gilliland, and Jalen Hollimon were the team members for the 4x200. We will post the official state qualifiers soon.
After the field events and the 3200 the Owls have done very well. We have gold medals from Hastings McEwan in the 3200 and Dorian Hopkins in the triple jump and the discus. Most of the boys have set PR's for the season at this meet. We will post final running results after the meet on Thursday.
A trio of Owls participated in the regional decathlon. Dorian Hopkins ('19) finished 1st followed by Gavin McKay ('21). Stephen Christenbury ('19) finished 4th. Great job by all three. The state decathlon will be held at Brentwood Academy May 17 & 18.
