The wrestlers were busy this weekend. The varsity placed 10th out of 27 schools at the Hendersonville “Commando Crush” Invitational. Stephen Christenbury (220) placed 2nd, Matthew Rhodes (285) 3rd, Torrance Bostick (138) and Ian McGehee (113) 5th and Christian Howard (145) placed 7th in their respective weight classes. The JV was at the Panther Invitational at Bartlett. Darren Robinson (285) won the heavyweight division, Jack Ryan (152) finished second & Gervacio Gonzalez (170) placed third.
The Owls split a pair of matches last night in Todd-Snowden Gymnasium, defeating Brighton 48-12 but falling to the #6 ranked team in the state, Arlington, 64-11. Dutch Hansen and Ian McGehee had big wins against Arlington. The team heads into exams with a record 5-5.
The Owls took two matches last night, downing Kingsbury 42-27 & Cordova 59-18. Fastest pin of the night belonged to Hart Gowen, who fell his Cordova opponent in 14 seconds. Congratulations to Jacob Zamore (Zay-more), for his first varsity win and pin against Cordova. Next up the grappling Owls travel to Clarksville to compete in the Slamfest on Saturday.
Tuesday night the grappling Owls split a pair of matches to push their season record to 2-1. In the first match, the Owls topped East 54-12 with Jack Ryan and Owen Fussell getting their first career pins. In the second match, the Owls fell to the Dragons of Collierville 65-18. Thursday the wrestlers are back home, taking on Cordova and Kingsbury. Matches begin at 6:00 pm.
