Trigon Takes Over Amphitheater

Students and faculty flocked to Thomas Amphitheater to watch as three Lower School contenders took to the arena for the trigon finals May 5.
The ancient Roman game involves three competitors standing in a triangle, tossing a ball to one another, and catching it with their non-dominant hand. Points are deducted for poor throws and missed catches. Classical and Modern Languages Chair Ryan Sellers and Latin Instructor David Gagliano served as referees to determine who was awarded points on close calls.

A faculty warmup featuring Science Instructor Nick Blackwell, Religion Instructor Elliott Dent, and Lower School Dean of Students Joe Tyler helped remind the crowd of the rules.

Then eighth graders Haygood Dunavant, Mohib Farooq, and Max Lino engaged in  a tight competition that came down to the final point. While Lower School students kept score, Sellers called the game, finally declaring Dunavant the champion and winner of the Gladiator Trophy.
