Construction and Endowment Milestones Announced
Headmaster Pete Sanders and Board of Trustees Chair Will Thompson ’95 have announced a special moment in the history and trajectory of MUS. We celebrate the launch of a three-phase campus construction plan and the near-doubling of our endowment, milestones made possible by the Bold Vision Bright Future campaign. A quiet effort to this point, the campaign for Memphis University School now expands to all who embrace our vital mission.
Thanks to the generosity of MUS community members, we have secured $107 million of a $200 million capital and endowment goal, paving the way to begin construction on Phase 1 of the plan. The demolition of our library this summer will make way for a new arts and sciences building, including an 820-seat Hyde Chapel.
A new admissions office and Park Avenue entrance with guard house will also be introduced during this first 18-month phase of construction. Phase 2 will include construction of a state-of-the-art library and technology center and, to accommodate our sixth through eighth grades, a new Lower School. Upon meeting our campaign goal, we also look forward to the construction of new indoor turf field, fitness center, baseball field house, and other campus improvements.
Endowment GrowthWe are pleased to announce we have received $50 million in endowment commitments, which will increase our fund to over $100 million, growth that will make this one of the largest independent day school endowments in the region.
A strong endowment is an engine for creativity and growth. It allows us to recruit and retain the best faculty, keep tuition affordable, and provide need-based financial aid.
Many educational institution capital campaigns include an endowment component once the money is raised for buildings. We intentionally began our campaign with the endowment because of its paramount importance. With an additional $50 million, MUS is now in an even stronger position to serve Memphis families.
Bold Vision Bright Future – and Deep RootsAs the campus and endowment evolve, we shape the future for our boys and pave the way for the organizations, cities, and regions they will shape. The Bold Vision Bright Future campaign allows us to continue delivering on a mission that will not change:
Memphis University School is a college-preparatory school dedicated to academic excellence, cultivation of service and leadership, and the development of well-rounded young men of strong moral character, consistent with the school’s Christian tradition.Through the continuous hard work and benchmarks of this capital and endowment campaign, we will transform our campus, further strengthen our academic foundation, recruit and support the best faculty, broaden our reach, and enrich our student experience.
While dirt will begin moving on campus this summer, stay tuned for updates and an opportunity to celebrate together. In the meantime, you can learn more about future plans at:
