Kushal Patel 2025 Salutatorian

Memphis University School Salutatorian Kushal Patel stands out for his innovative approach to scholarship and his concern for others. One of Kushal’s most endearing qualities is his ability to make work feel engaging and joyous and to draw friends into his projects. During his internship with Woodberry Associates in Washington, D.C., Kushal joined the office baseball league where he competed in friendly matches against other lobbying firms and political offices.
As a founding member and CFO of The Pathlight Project through the Blind Accessibility Solution LLC, Kushal assists in the development of a navigation headset that utilizes artificial intelligence and audio cues to help visually impaired individuals with movement. He and his co-founders have funded the device, now in the prototype stage, through pitch competitions.

Kushal encourages his peers to dedicate their time and energy to community service on and off campus. He founded a 501c(3) nonprofit, the Memphis Elderly Outreach Association, through which he and fellow volunteers visit and assist older residents of a Mississippi health and rehabilitation facility. They secured a grant to provide bags of treats and craft supplies and delivered them on Thanksgiving morning. Kushal further honed a supportive leadership style through his role as captain of the MUS varsity fencing team, where he has led warm-ups and assisted coaches in recruiting new athletes. He is also a Latin Club consul, DECA president, and Student Ambassador.

Academically, Kushal takes advantage of the opportunities afforded him by enrolling in demanding Advanced Placement and Honors Accelerated classes. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Latin Honor Society, and the MUS Cum Laude Society, and he is a National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar Semifinalist. He is also among 150 high school students across the country to be designated as a Coke Scholar Select.

The son of Dr. Purvisha Patel and Dr. Dharmesh Patel, Kushal will graduate summa cum laude and attend Stanford University where he plans to pursue a degree in STEM.
