Brody-Waite Teaches 3 Principles for Leadership

Author and entrepreneur Michael Brody-Waite spoke in Hyde Chapel as the 2022 Rogers Leadership Forum special guest.

Brody-Waite is an Inc. 500 entrepreneur, award-winning CEO, leadership coach, and author of Great Leaders Live Like Drug Addicts: How to Lead Like Your Life Depends on It. He has provided leadership workshops and seminars to top companies including Dell and Google.
The evocative book title refers to his experience as a recovering addict and how three principles learned in rehab can be applied to life and leadership:

  • Practice rigorous authenticity.
  • Surrender the outcome.
  • Do uncomfortable work.
Brody-Waite explained that these principles are a remedy against three typical behaviors that people with drug addiction exhibit: saying yes even when they know it’s bad for them, hiding weakness, and avoiding difficult conversations.

He closed his talk with a quote from poet E.E. Cummings: “To be nobody in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.”
