Latin Scriptores Win Awards
Three Owls won awards for their original Latin compositions in the Latin SCRIBO Composition Contest.
Junior Kevin Ma wrote a Level 4 short story that won the Cum Laude Award for a fourth-place finish. Senior Forest Rudd’s AP Level short story also won a Cum Laude Award. Junior Frederick Huang won a Maxima Cum Laude – a second-place award – for his Level 4 short story.
Incorporating the theme “Wonders of the Ancient World,” each participant wrote an original work about one of the seven wonders – The Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, or the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
The SCRIBO contest allowed short stories, poems, comics, or fill-in-the-blank stories, but every submission was required to be 250 words. The contest is sponsored by the Excellence Through Classics League, established in 1989.
