Willmott Turns up Wrasslin’ Heat in Chapel

Sherman Willmott ’84 brought the excitement of vintage Memphis wrestling to chapel December 2. Wilmott, who opened Shangri-La Records in 1989 and later launched the record label, production company, and publisher Shangri-La Projects, told of the role pro wrestling played in Memphis history, showing a portion of the 2011 documentary he produced, “Memphis Heat: The True Story of Memphis Wrasslin.’”
The multitalented alumnus also served as the first curator of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and is a founding board member of Memphis Listening Lab at Crosstown Concourse.

Willmott praised the MUS English teachers from his time at 6191 Park Avenue and encouraged the boys, including nephew George Willmott ’26, to appreciate the school’s “MVP-ninjas.”

“[MUS English teachers] will get you to college, get you through life, and help you do whatever you want to do successfully.”
