Three Owls Earn SCRIBO Honors

Three students earned recognition for their work in the SCRIBO Latin Competition Contest.

Brandon Nicholson ’24 – Maxima Cum Laude
Alyaan Salman ’23 – Maxima Cum Laude
Max Mascolino ’23 – Cum Laude
Students chose to compete in one of four categories: short stories, poems, comic books, and fill-in-the-blank stories. The Owls elected to create comics based on this year’s theme, Geography of the Greco-Roman World.

The submissions were judged on creativity, originality, connection to Roman culture, and the composition of Latin. Summa Cum Laude is the highest scoring range at 20 to 22 while Maxima Cum Laude ranges from 18 to 19. Any student receiving the Magna Cum Laude honor scored a 17 from the judges, and Cum Laude honorees scored a 16.

Over 130 students from 13 states, Italy, and Canada submitted original works to the SCRIBO competition. All participants receive a SCRIBO Participation Certificate while winners receive a ribbon for their performance.

The SCRIBO contest is sponsored by Excellence Through Classics, a division of the American Classical League.
