College Counseling

All Upper School students benefit from a four-year college counseling program. Three full-time college counselors work closely with students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to find colleges that will enrich the lives of the young men and build on the strong educational foundation established at Memphis University School. The college process is part of the high school experience, but it is not the main focus, nor should it be. The goal is for students to enjoy the present while their college counselors help them plan for the future.

Each student is assigned a college counselor sophomore year to begin one-on-one meetings. The college counselor works with the student individually, meeting him where he is and helping him identify his interests, what he is looking for in a college, and which schools may be a good fit. Parents have the opportunity to meet with their college counselor regularly throughout the process.

The College Counseling team maintains strong relationships with college admission officers to communicate the quality of the MUS academic program and the preparedness of students. Each year, the team invites college admission officers to visit MUS to meet with students. In addition, during Fall Break, the college counselors typically offer college tours in different geographic regions each year so Upper School students can see a variety of college campuses firsthand.

The college counselors also engage in professional development to stay informed about the ever-changing landscape of college admission. They visit colleges annually and participate in counselor programs to deepen their understanding and knowledge of schools throughout the country and the world.
