College Counseling

As a college preparatory school, MUS puts great emphasis on working closely with each student throughout the selection process, and we are proud of our reputation among colleges and universities throughout the country and abroad. With an annual 100 percent four-year college matriculation rate, our graduating students are regularly accepted to 115-125 colleges and universities, with scholarship offers totaling $10-$12 million.

Our mission in preparing students for the college-selection process is getting them to think outside the box to find that right match – a school that encompasses their goals, embraces their academic potential, and envelops their special interests. We offer college tours for students every year, and we maintain strong relationships with colleges and universities across the country to ensure that they are aware of our stellar reputation and the accomplishments and potential of our students. We invite parents to meet with counselors regularly throughout this process.

Our work begins in the eighth grade with academic advising and continues throughout Upper School as we provide students with college options and prepare them for the PSAT. The formalized application process begins junior year, with regular group and individual college meetings and standardized testing. Juniors participate in mock interviews with alumni and faculty members each spring.

We use Naviance Family Connection to help manage college preparation and selection, and we offer our customized College Bound booklet for families as well as other reference materials.

We are committed to finding the perfect fit for your son, so he can continue to fulfill his potential and further build upon the strong foundation created here at MUS.

For College Reps

Evenings with Colleges
The MUS team is eager to invite you to our Evenings With Colleges, hosted by Hutchison School, St. Mary’s School, and Memphis University School. These events provide you an opportunity to meet with students and families from all three institutions. We will treat you to dinner and provide a space for our students to learn about your great schools in the fall. You can find more information and register by clicking this link: Evenings With Colleges Registration.

Owl Afternoons
MUS offers another opportunity for colleges and universities to visit our campus and meet directly with MUS students. We understand that some colleges are unable to attend our Evenings With Colleges events, and we feel it is important to provide as much access as possible for students and colleges. MUS will accommodate up to five colleges per day on selected Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the Fall and Spring for 45 minutes beginning at 3 p.m. each day. On Wednesdays students will be available to meet beginning at 2 p.m. Ideally, the first 15 minutes will be dedicated to setting up your station and meeting with the MUS team; the last half hour will be open to all of our students. To set up a visit, please contact a member of the college counseling team or sign up in RepVisits.
