Admissions

Welcome

Enter the seventh grader. A boy stepping out of childhood, preparing to traverse adolescence en route to adulthood. Or the freshman, stepping up to his high school experience with college in his sights. With more than a century of experience accompanying students on this journey, we know the path by heart.

Founded in 1893, Memphis University School offers an unparalleled college-preparatory education with one primary, underlying goal: developing well-rounded young men of strong moral character. Currently serving more than 600 boys in Grades 7-12, we encourage every student to discover and cultivate his individual talents. No matter the age a boy joins us, we help him realize his own immense potential and the unlimited possibilities therein.

  • Welcome from the Director of Admissions

It is my great pleasure to invite you to learn for yourself what has made this one of the outstanding schools for boys in the Mid-South for over 100 years. Serving as Director of Admissions these past seven years has been a rewarding journey. To work in a community that is centered on our motto, Veritas Honorque (Truth and Honor), and to see how that motto is lived out each day is quite fulfilling.

Having worked in public and independent schools, coed and single sex, from Memphis to Philadelphia, I have had the privilege of seeing many remarkable schools. Yet in my opinion, MUS offers a truly unique experience for students. Each spring as we choose sophomores to serve as school admission hosts their junior and senior years, I am humbled by the expressions of affection these adolescent boys express for their peers, for their teachers, and for their school.

That affinity for MUS continues after graduation – we receive a high level of support from our alumni, who demonstrate their care for our school in extraordinary ways.

As our mission states, we are a college preparatory school dedicated to academic excellence, cultivation of service and leadership, and the development of well-rounded young men of strong moral character.

Our goal is to enroll boys in grades 7-12 with promising academic potential and guide them in the development of that potential, preparing them for college, career, and life ahead. Throughout their years here, our students experience a diverse culture that fosters excellence, service, leadership, and lifelong friendships.
