Father Ryan Recap

The Owls went on the road to win a play-off game this past Friday at Father Ryan by a score of 41 to 17. The team played a complete game as an underdog to a Ryan team who had been very hot with wins over McCallie, Baylor, and Ensworth. For the Owls it was a true team effort in the victory. Down two starting linebackers plus loosing a starting safety at the half the Owl defense did a great job of keeping Ryan and their All-State and  Mr. Football honoree QB out of the end-zone. It was a great team defensive effort. On offense we executed very well but props especially to our offensive line and running backs for providing a consistent run game against a team whose defensive identity is to stop the run. Add to this all the craziness that comes with travelling under COVID protocols and I would rank this victory very high up the list in all-time great play-off wins for the Owls.

MERCURY AWARDS:
This was such a team win it is very hard to just pick a couple of people who stood out. So we will go strictly objective with production value scores to name the winners this week. On defense Nash Stewart ending up with 24 points based on 6 tackles, 2 for loss, and two short yardage big plays. The last few weeks Nash has shown the type play he had before his injury last year and he will have to play great for us this week against MBA. On offense our two running backs Christopher Goodwin and Hunter Barnes combined for 231 points. They accounted for 5 TD's.

The team will continue on the road this week as we travel back to Nashville to take on MBA in the state semi-finals. I am so proud of this team for reaching this goal. We got off to a rough start this year but the boys never quit working or believing in each other. We will be a heavy underdog again this week but I would never count our guys out. This team has learned how to fight through adversity and bring honor to the Red and Blue!
