KnoX Catholic Recap

First congratulations to Knoxville Catholic on a great game. They played very well despite the long road trip. We knew that #7 and #25 were dangerous but we had not seen their QB perform at that level throughout the season. His stat line of 34 of 41 for 393 yards and 3 TD’s is very strong. He guided them to 12/17 on 3rd/4th down conversions as well.
Our team battled despite not having a good night of execution, displaying the heart / character that propelled us to an excellent regular season. This was a tough way for our men to go out but as they have all season, they did bring honor to the Red & Blue. Our effort as it has been all season was exceptional.
MERCURY AWARDS:
Begun in 1991 due to the generosity of Owl booster Earl Blankenship, the Mercury Awards are presented to players of the game (usually offense and defense) and to the Buzzard Player of the Week (Scout Team). Each winner receives a special award at the end of the season, and these are cherished by many boys.
This week the Players of the Game are Brandon Nicholson and Hudson Shoaf. Brandon led us on offense scoring twice on his 2 receptions of 100 yards. Both were for TD’s. In addition, his 90-yard punt return for a TD set an MUS record for the longest punt return in MUS history. Hudson Shoaf played one of his best games, of which there are many, garnering 21 tackles, which ranks # 2 all time for tackles in a game. In addition, he had 5 TFL’s of which 3 were sacks.
In a few days we will post an end of season recap. But I am so proud of how this team overcame tremendous adversity to fight for each other every play. It has been an honor to coach this group.
